• Harmonians - Believe Me / Ranny Williams & Upsetters - Hop Scotch

You like your reggae faster than Usain Bolt? – the 68 Sound is what you should check out. And this is a great example of it. The success of Pioneers took the reggae vocal group sound in a different direction. People still loved The Heptones and The Gaylads – but this style was something unique to Jamaica. No one in the world could sing a group harmony like this, but Jamaica. Of course the Harmonians did not have the success of The Pioneers – even in the world of reggae music they are unknown – but it’s still great music.

Ranny Bop – Hop Scotch – Spade

Another great tune from Ranny – my guess would be around the early seventies -1971. The rhythms were slower and more powerful. Perfect for a scrubbing guitar to come in and Skank the rhythm. Although this is Roots tune not a Skank tune. All these little changes mean little to most people today – but they are part of the gradual change of reggae music – so much experimentation was going on then – and people like Ranny were at the heart of it. When he came to the UK Ranny carried on his work – creating some great music
